How I Got Into Miami Ad School

Following events are based on a true story:

When I told my dad: “I want to study in the US” his reflex was: “How much is this gonna cost me?”

I told him that the tuition is $36K, and then I need some extra for living. So, $50K would be good. But a little more won’t hurt.

He immediately said “Siktir!”, (means “F**k off!” in Turkish.)

It’s a little harsh. But there was no way he could afford that kind of money with his teacher salary.

But he added, if I can find some sort of a scholarship, then he'd reconsider.

A few days later...

As I was aimlessly scrolling on Twitter, I saw that Miami AD School was opening a branch in Istanbul.

Within seconds, I bought the domain; miamiadschoolistanbul.com.

I had this insight:

any search about “Miami Ad School Istanbul” would start from Google.

The next day, I put together a website with my cousin and wrote a simple line:

Sorry to interrupt!
You’re just looking at this website but I live with the dream of entering this school.

The site looked liked the original Miami Ad School website but after showing my message for 30 seconds, it directed users to the official website.

A few days later, my website went viral and was picked up by popular advertising blogs in Turkey.

And finally, I got accepted to the school with a scholarship. Budget: Everything cost $10.

The site mentioned as "The new creation of the month" by www.newcreatives.com

The Turkish Advertising Association announced my scholarship.

The website started a conversation about Miami Ad School Istanbul on Eksi Sozluk which is the Reddit of Turkey.
